Wild West Rodeo
"The
Minot's Y's Men's PRCA Indoor Rodeo is entering its ninth year
of hosting a special program that is now called "Wild West Rodeo
For Special Kids." This program involves some of rodeo's rough,
tough competitors in a mild manner of fun and excitement, other
than in rodeo competition. In this event you will see the "kid"
come out in each cowboy and cowgirl's personality as they pair
up with a special needs child in the rodeo arena.
The format of the "Wild West
Rodeo For Special Kids" features the special needs child with
his/her "rodeo partner" as they make their way through a series
of modified rodeo events designed to simulate actual rodeo
events. Approximately 35 children participate in this special
rodeo, always with safety first and foremost.
To look and feel like a
cowboy, the children are each presented with a cowboy hat,
t-shirt, lariat rope, and an official contestant number. When
each child is finished with the events, awards will be presented
individually letting the onlooker participate in watching the
"Wild West Rodeo" action.
The children will feel the
excitement building as they get to perform and then are able to
watch his/her rodeo partner perform in the actual rodeo. Just
like the rodeo itself, the "Wild West Rodeo" will be announced
as the competition is taking place.
The entire 60 minute
performance takes place just prior to Thursday nights
performance. "Wild West Rodeo" involves careful
planning so that each child can go away with a wonderful memory
of getting involved with one of America's most unique sports.
With the help of friends,
volunteers, and sponsors, this event is possible. The Minot Y's
Men feel everyone should have the opportunity of being involved
with rodeo."
